Further comments

The Centre was formed out of a merger between Sheffield and the Northern & Yorkshire Cytology Training Schools in 2005. Courses now take place at a newly built, state of the art facility, close to Leeds.

Additional comments

All update courses are accredited for the IBMS CPD & NAC CEC scheme.

Participants from the North East, Yorkshire and Trent Regions will only incur a £10 administration fee only on many courses, including those in Advanced Practice and non gynae cytology.

Advanced Specialist Diploma. Mock Exam Course

19 October 2010 - 20 October 2010

A two day course aimed at preparing candidates for the Advanced Specilaist Diploma in Cervical Cytology. There is guidance on both practical and theoretical aspects and a mock exam. All course tutors have passed the exam and two have examined for it.

An Update Course for Advanced BMS Practitioner / Consultant BMS staff

09 November 2010 - 11 November 2010

A three / four day update aimed specifically at AP / Consultant BMS staff. The course covers basic histopathology, clinical management , the use of molecular markers and advanced cytopathology with the opportunity for individuals to bring along their own cases.

Course fee: £10 within the region. £200 others

Cytopathology for Histopathologists

An intensive 5 day course aimed at trainees approaching their MRCPath examinations. Covers both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology. Cervical cytology centres mainly around SurePath cytology.

IBMS Examination in non gynae preparation Course

12 October 2010 - 15 October 2010

A four day course aimed primarily but not exclusively at individuals thinking about, or coming up to the IBMS diploma in non gynae cytology. Anyone doing non gynae would aalso benefit from this course which covers, effusions, urine & repiratory cytology

Introductory Course in Gynaecological Cytology

A comprehensive introduction to cervical cytopathology suitable for trainee BMS staff and Cytoscreeners. Run in two, 2-week blocks. All cases are SurePath. The course fee is inclusive of an update course at a later date during the training period.

One Day Course for Failsafe Clerks

A one day course aimed primarily at those involved in the day to day running of the failsafe systems, but ideal for anyone with an interest in Failsafe. The course covers laboratory roles in failsafe, organisation of call / recall, ceasing from screening and vault samples togeter with a opportinunity to discuss issues in small breakout groups.

One Day courses in non gynae cytology

20 September 2010 - 22 September 2010

This series of three one day courses is specifically designed for individuals undertaking their specialist portfolios. They are specifically designed to cover the various elements identified in the portfolio, including in particular, respiratory, effusion and urine cytology. The three can be booked as a block or in one day units. The course would also be very suitable for those needing some basic introductory training.

Preparation for life as a Consultant (Advanced Practitioner) Biomedical Scientist

04 October 2010 - 08 October 2010

A 5-day course covering all the mandatory elements but also offers modules in basic histopathology of CIN, endometrial lesions and benign entities, VAIN & VIN. In addition there are over two days of multi-headed microscopy sessions and a a session from Ray Lonsdale, Chair of the Conjoint Board, on the role of the Pathologist Mentor. The venue for this course is Leeds.
